Great Hosts
The moment you enter the gates of The Cabana Guest House & Spa you automatically start to relax. Our first impression, someone takes a lot of time and care of this oasis. Every where you looked you saw lush green plants and flowers and spotless grounds, true to the pictures on their web site. We were early our first day at The Cabana Guest House, however the front desk manager “Dave” was very friendly, took us on a tour, showed us a changing room and told us to relax by the pool and he would come and let us know when our room was ready and he did. John, one of the owners was there each day with his partner Paul, both always with a smile and ready to answer any questions or offer suggestions to local haunts. Our room was very clean and close to the dock where we enjoyed our coffee each morning. The Continental Breakfast was great too! We liked the fact you could eat outside at one of the many cafe tables or on the dock. They also, provide Kayaks and Bicycles and we did both. The Spa was a great touch also and we had a wonderful massage towards the end of our stay. With two pools, hot tub, steam-room, spa and dock you have plenty of room to roam the grounds. If you have never stayed here before, we highly recommend that you give it a try. It is possibly the cleanest, most enjoyable accommodation in Wilton Manors. We look forward to our next stay and many more after that. Thanks guys for making our eight day stay one of the best ever. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the review Joe, We look forward to your next visit.

Sincerely, The Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa

No Nude Olympics for Vancouver 2010

Vancouver Times

As Vancouver continues to be lambasted by foreign press that have dubbed these Olympics the “Calamity Games,” Australia has failed to field enough volunteers to properly organize their annual naked version. Basically, they lacked the proper support.

“The…Nude Olympics won’t be happening in 2010, basically due to a manpower problem,” organizer Stephen P — who didn’t want his full name used — told QMI Agency.

The Southern United Naturists have run their bare-bottom Olympiad since the club was founded in the South Australia coastal suburb of Maslin Beach, more than 20 years ago.

The event gained worldwide attention.

Instead of toned athletes speeding down an icy bobsled run, the Nude Olympics featured often middle-aged beach goers taking part in egg and spoon races on hot sand. You wouldn’t find ice hockey, but there was a three-legged race in the 40C heat. And let’s not forget the full-on glory that came with winning the best bum competition.

However, like the original competitions in Greece — where male athletes would often compete without clothes — the Nude Olympics have also hit a snag in old traditions.

“In (the club’s) peak we would have had at least a couple of hundred active members…however times have changed,” said Stephen, a 47-year-old defence satellite communications expert.

They now have only twenty financial members.

He lamented a changing world, where people expect others to do all the work of organizing a massive event like the Olympics, as well as the social taboos that see naturists deal with society’s unease over being naked around children.

A church leader and French horn musician, Stephen does have faith though, that the Olympic spirit will one day rise again over his local beach.

He vowed: “We are confident that the Maslin Nude Olympics will be resurrected one day.”

Until then, he can at least watch the Vancouver Games in the buff.

Want to be a CABANA’S BOY?

Do you have what it takes to be a Cabana’s Boy?

Each year at The Cabana’s Guesthouse & Spa, we look for some of the sexiest gay men. We then tag them as our “boys”, allowing them to frolic and play all over our gay clothing optional resort, while being photographed by world famous photographer Vim Kruger. Kruger’s shots are then used to update our website and contribute to other promotional items for The Cabanas.

This year, we are encouraging all of our readers and valued guests, both past and present, to participate in our next Cabana Boy (uh and clearly “man”) contest.  We are already planning the next photo shoot in the upcoming months and we’re inviting YOU to let us know if you think you’re one of our men for 2011!

That’s correct – you could be invited to The Cabanas Guesthouse and Spa in sunny Fort Lauderdale for a complimentary stay and inclusion in a professional photo shoot; not to mention a shot at becoming the 2011 Cabana Boy! If you or someone you know thinks you’ve got what it takes, send us an email at cabanaboycontest@thecabanasguesthouse.com with your photo, a brief description, and a link to your facebook or twitter or any other social network if you have them.

Tell us what you love about The Cabanas and why we should consider you as a candidate. We will be reviewing all submitted emails and if we decide that you’re Cabana Boy material, you just might be on your way to Fort Lauderdale for a stay at The Cabanas – on us!

Our guests at The Cabanas Guesthouse and Spa come from all over the world.  If you’ve never been here, you’ll find that our all male gay resort and spa provides endless amenities and is the only one of its type in Wilton Manors, the heart of Gay Fort Lauderdale. Warm Sunny Winter has Returned to South Florida

After a seemingly endless (OK, it was only 8 days) and not to mention record setting cold spell in South Florida, the beautiful warm weather is back. The first two weeks of January surprised many South Floridians who are used to day after day of sunny skies and average daily winter temperatures running between 75-80 degrees. Furthermore, while everyone north of this sub tropical paradise had little symapthy for local cries from thin skin native Floridians, the 8 days of temperatures dropping into the 30’s was so far below average that many of us were considering packing up and moving to Florida – untill we realized we were already here.

Needless to say, the bears (as well as the leather men, muscle boys, etc..) have come out of hibernation. The tourist season (among other things, if you know what we mean) is back in full swing and the forecast is sunny and warm from here on out…. Well at least for South Florida.

While the rest of the country is enjoying arctic winds, freezing temperatures and piles of dirty, dirty snow, sadly the coldest thing available in South Florida is a frozen Margarita on the beach. Just terrible isn’t it?

So, for those of you in the rest of the country who are suffering from cabin fever, it’s time to exchange your snow shoveling, sidewalk salting, windshield-ice-chipping-duties for a relaxing, rejuvenating, tropical getaway.

If you can make it down before the end of January, consider taking advantage of our weekday stay at The Cabanas Guesthouse and Spa with rates starting at only $119 per night. For more information, reservations or availability, call toll free (866) 564-7764 or (954) 564-7764.

We even checked flights from most major airports in all the cold areas and found prices as low as $180 round trip with little advance notification. Visit www.kayak.com to find flights from your area.

If you’re planning a trip down after this month, now is the time to make your reservations. Rooms are booking fast at this premeir winter getaway and are expected to fill quickly.

The Cabanas sits on a secluded waterfront property in the Wilton Manors area of Fort Lauderdale. Famous for its private and friendly gay clothing-optional setting, The Cabanas offers unique hospitality and service that is unmatched in comparison to other gay mens resorts. Perfectly located between the Wilton Manors Strip and Fort Lauderdale Beach, there’s nothing that can’t be easily accessed. Dining, nightlife, shopping and more, Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors have everything and anything you need for a perfect winter getaway. If you’ve never stayed at The Cabanas, we’re confident that you’ll come as a visitor and return as a friend. Modern Family

If you haven’t watched or heard about it, you really don’t know what your missing. The ABC show “Modern Family”  had more than a few people falling over laughing, and that was only during the season premier. The hilarious comedy features Ed O’Neill (best known as AL from “Married With Children”) as the aging father to two middle-aged children and their families (one straight family with kids and one gay couple who adopt a baby girl).  Creative plots and the neverending attempt to adjust to each others ways of life,  Modern Family is a major hit – and definitely worth watching each and every episode.

The Manor on Wilton Drive

galaThe Manor is located on Wilton Drive and is a complete multi-level food and entertainment complex unlike anything else this area. The Manor features a lounge, a nightclub, a martini bar, a banquet/meeting facility, a coffee shop and restaurant and is using a totally remodeled space that was previously Flowers Restaurant and its neighbors. An entire second floor has been added to the building.

The Manor is the brainchild of prominent businessmen and real estate developers, Paul Hugo and Brett Tannenbaum. Hugo’s previous nightclubs locally included 825 and The Saint. Together they were responsible for the Coliseum nightclub and they owned several restaurants in the area.
Along with Hugo and Tannenbaum, the management team consists of Gary Santis and Jason Tamanini.

Santis is a nightclub and promotions guru who got his start twenty years ago in the famed Warsaw Ballroom on South Beach. He moved to Fort Lauderdale where he propelled nightclubs like The Saint, Pier, Coliseum and JetSet to mega-club status and the trend-setting establishments of their time. Santis also promoted the weekly Sunday event at VooDoo Lounge, “Babylon T-Dance” for years and owns and promotes two of the largest annual gay events in Fort Lauderdale: “The White Fort Lauderdale Event” and “The Black Fort Lauderdale Event”.

Working with Santis will be Jason Tamanini as Operations Director who will be responsible for ensuring that the “consumer experience” is second to none in all areas of the complex. Together they will be designing and bringing to life fresh innovative events and concepts.

Tamanini was part of the food and beverage team at the Trump Taj-Mahal in Atlantic City, worked in several restaurants in the area and became general manager of China White Lounge in Fort Lauderdale. Most recently Tamanini was managing South Beach’s Halo Lounge on Lincoln Road and has been responsible for overseeing the Halo Lounge in Washington, D.C.

Chef Brent M. Sick takes over as culinary master for The Manor. Chef Brent is a graduate of the prestigious International Culinary Institute of Pennsylvania. He moved to South Florida from Orlando where he was executive chef of two of American’s top ten busiest restaurants in the country, Fulton’s Crab House and Wolfgang Puck’s in Downtown Disney.
The chef plans to bring some of his signature offerings to The Manor. “Conceptually, I re-created the restaurant’s unique atmosphere through the house and tapas menus,” he said. “It has a little bit of some of the best things I have done running some of the most successful restaurants in the United States. I am very, very excited to be a key player in such a new and ambitious season for South Florida, Fort Lauderdale, and more importantly, Wilton Manors.”

Inside The Manor, you’ll be able to enjoy:
The York Restaurant – a bright and vibrant restaurant as exciting as its food. People-watching will be available outside on the Alfresco Colonnade which will be perfect for casual dining. Inside will be a crisp-chic casual experience complete with a baby grand piano. Whether dining inside or out, The Manor is promising outstanding food and service.
The Windsor Martini Bar will be the perfect place to enjoy classic martinis along with the latest trend in blended martinis. The servers are being specially trained by global martini experts to produce amazing handcrafted cocktails. Perfect for meeting someone and enjoying a cocktail before or after dinner.

Coffee Talk is the coffee shop that will be offering a selection of exceptional desserts, gelatos, quality roasted coffees, cappuccinos, espressos, teas and after-dining cordials throughout the day or evening. Free wi-fi Internet will be available.

The Epic Nightclub is a combination of vintage style and cosmopolitan sophistication. This two-level nightclub has four chandeliers, a covered outside arcade with a Polynesian flavor, a large performance stage and the best lighting and sound system available anywhere. There is also a VIP room for guests looking to go the extra mile.

The Ivy Lounge and Patio will host a variety of musical stylings throughout the week. Ever-changing soothing lights illuminate the ceiling. The room is also used as banquet facility offering complete catering and beverage service for private affairs.

If you’re planning a gay vacation to South Florida or the Fort Lauderdale area, consider staying at Fort Lauderdales premier gay resort – The Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa. Located just blocks from the heart of Wilton Manors, the cabanas is centrally located near nightlife, fine didning, the beach, the bars and more.
