Well, that’s what Molly Ringwald seems to think. A fun fact about the 1986 classic “Pretty In Pink” is that the original ending had Andie falling in love for her best friend Duckie, played by Jon Cryer.
Allegedly, test audiences responded with such distaste for the movie that execs rearranged the story to what we know it as today. Ringwald recently went on the record to say that she didn’t feel as if the original storyline was even plausible because she believes Duckie would have realized at some point that he swings for the other team.
“Duckie doesn’t know he’s gay. I think he loves Andie in the way that [my gay best friend] always loved me. That ending fell so flat – it bombed at all the screenings. I didn’t realize it then – i just knew that my character shouldn’t end up with him, because we didn’t have that sort of chemistry. If Jon was here now, and I could talk to him, I think that he would completely acknowledge that.”
Jon’s response? “I respectfully disagree.” I just love Jon Cryer!
