If you’re interested in owning a piece of fashion history and have some cash to spare, Casa Casuarina, Gianni Versace’s former Miami mansion, is still on the market. According to The Wall Street Journal, Casa Casuarina LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 1.
The 9,000-square-foot 10-bedrooms 11-bathroom home, now being operated as a hotel, is facing foreclosure by the mortgage holder VM South Beach LLC. That entity is, interestingly enough, owned by another notable name in clothing: the Nakash family of Jordache jeans fame. What is it with fashion personalities and expensive real estate this year?
Originally listed for $125 million, the price was slashed to $75 million in May. Versace bought the mansion in 1992 and lived there for just five years before he was tragically gunned down on its doorstep in 1997.
Sordid details aside, the estate is something to admire. It was designed in 1930 after the “Alcázar de Colon” in the Dominican Republic, which belonged to Christopher Columbus’ son. Dramatic features like a 54-foot mosaic-tiled pool lined with 24-karat gold, ornate statues, manicured gardens and detailed murals make it a home unlike any other.
If the thought of this price tag for this home is to much please come and stay with the Cabana’s Guesthouse for a fraction of the price. We have two pools and a tropical paradise to relax in as well as being close to Gay Fort Lauderdale’s nightlife and shopping!
